You may remember the whole debacle surrounding one of BioWare’s former lead writers, Jennifer Hepler, who worked on Dragon Age 2 then said in an interview that her least favorite aspect of working in the gaming industry was playing through the games and any combat they may feature. The BioWare gaming community kind of exploded after that interview, which lead the debacle in the first place. The resulting explosion caused a pretty large wave of harassment and even death threats posed to Hepler and her family. In short, some took the interview way too far while blaming her for Dragon Age 2‘s simplistic combat and simplistic, well, everything.
Was that the case? Most likely not, but at any rate, Hepler soon left the company after she was announced lead writer of Dragon Age: Acquisition. She stated that the harassment was not her reason for leaving and that she wanted to pursue a few freelance gaming projects.
The latest project that she is a part of is currently on Kickstarter. It’s called Ambrov X and is a 3D, single player action roleplaying game set in the science fiction space opera-y universe of Sime~Gen, a world based on a series of award-winning novels. It’ll be released in episodes. The game will be extremely story-based, feature a huge amount of fully-voiced cutscenes, and will focus heavily on character relationships and meaningful choices that can be made by players.
Ambrov X will also feature fast-paced combat, and players will be able to choose from one of four different classes and modify weapons via a deep crafting system. It’s still deep in development (and Kickstarter funding), but the plan is to release it on Windows, OS X, and Linux platforms with alternate releases for iOS, Android, PS 4 and Xbox at a later date.
The company heading Ambrov X, Loreful, boasts a development team that’s full of award-winning science fiction authors. You can check out a video and more information about the game on its Kickstarter page.
